About the Session
This retrospective study from Botswana’s Tshilo Dikotla project compared infectious illness and mortality in HIV-exposed uninfected (HEU) and HIV-unexposed uninfected (HUU) infants during their first year. Contrary to earlier concerns, it found no significant differences between the groups—likely reflecting the benefits of widespread ART and improved infant care.
Mentor: Dr. Ombeva Malande (Kenya)
Presenters: Dr. Michael Ekow Mensah (Ghana)
Article: “Infectious Morbidity and All-cause Mortality of Infants HIV-exposed Uninfected Compared to Infants HIV-unexposed Uninfected in Botswana”, The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal – March 2025 Issue
