About the Session

This session will discuss the INDI-UTI trial, which compared individualized vs. standard 10-day antibiotic treatment for febrile UTI in children. While individualized treatment reduced antibiotic use and adverse events, it showed a slightly higher recurrence rate, and non-inferiority was not proven. We will explore the trial’s methodology, findings, and implications for clinical practice and antibiotic stewardship.

Presenters: Dr. Zahra Hoodbhoy and Dr. Laraib Malik

Article:“Efficacy and safety of individualized versus standard 10-day antibiotic treatment in children with febrile urinary tract infection (INDI-UTI)”

We encourage you to read the article beforehand to fully participate in the session.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To evaluate the rationale and methodological rigor of the INDI-UTI trial.
  2. To critically appraise the evidence generated on individualised versus standard antibiotic duration for febrile UTI in children.
  3. To discuss the implications of the trial findings for clinical practice and antimicrobial stewardship.
  4. To identify gaps in knowledge and propose future research directions building on the INDI-UTI trial.
