World Pertussis Day: Raising Awareness and Protecting Those Most at Riskf

Pertussis remains a significant global health threat and an important cause of illness and mortality in children, particularly infants and young children. World Pertussis Day, marked on 13 June in honour of Professor Jules Bordet, aims to raise awareness of pertussis as a serious but preventable disease and to support improved surveillance, immunisation strategies, and public understanding.

On this occasion, our member society, the Asian Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, together with us and other collaborating associations and experts, has issued a joint statement calling for continued action to protect those most at risk. The statement urges the public to seek guidance from local health experts and to stay up to date with recommended vaccines. It also calls on healthcare providers, public health authorities, and experts to strengthen health education, share accurate information, and promote confidence in the safety and importance of vaccination.
